"Helping restore financial balance to people's lives"

A 501(c)3 non-profit organization
|
What is the CWCID program?
The primary tool in the program is a 12-lesson
text, Credit When Credit Is Due, which is available in Spanish,
Crédito al Mérito, audio, video and now is also offered online.
The course is designed to help individuals gain a better
knowledge of money issues and responsibilities revolving around the world of
credit. It may be taught by a facilitator/teacher or self-studied. Tests
follow each lesson and are graded pass/fail.
When students complete the course
successfully, they will be registered in a national database and sent a
registration card identifying them to lenders as graduates of a national
standardized credit education program. This could entitle them to special
consideration and discounts, depending on the lenders discretion. They will also
receive three cards addressed to the three major credit bureaus allowing them to
add a positive statement to their credit reports.
The concept of the program is
similar to the well-known drivers education course. When people take drivers
education and learn the rules of the road and necessary driving skills, they are
considered to be better drivers. Auto insurance companies recognize them as
better driving risks and grant discounts on insurance premiums to those who
satisfactorily complete the course. The same theory applies to consumers who are
borrowing money or asking for credit.
Individuals who successfully complete the Credit When Credit
Is Due program should be better able to steer their financial course in the future.
Who developed the Credit When Credit is Due program and why?
Well-known for their award-winning and innovative education programs, Consumer
Credit Counseling Service of the Black Hills (CCCS/BH) developed the Credit When Credit Is Due
program in 1998 to help individuals gain a better knowledge of money
issues and responsibilities revolving around the world of credit.
Committed to a national standardized credit education program, CCCS/BH established
the American Center for Credit Education (ACCE) to assist partner organizations in implementing
and marketing the Credit When Credit Is Due
program in their communities. The
American Center for Credit Education also works on a grassroots level with lending
institutions, legislators, consumer groups and legal organizations throughout the United
States to encourage, influence, support and educate consumers about their financial
responsibilities. They also are working with other agencies in monitoring the success of
the program in order to provide measurable results. The American Center for Credit Education mission is to make available to all consumers, through various community resources,
national standardized credit and financial education.
Why should you take this course?
In 1999, the National Foundation for Consumer Credit presented Consumer Credit
Counseling Service of the Black Hills with their 1999 PACE Award "Search for
Excellence" and chose Credit When Credit Is Due as the best example of "innovation and
excellence in a money management education program."

What people are saying about the program
"Consumers can significantly improve their ability to manage financial matters if they attend and complete the
Credit When Credit Is Due credit education program. The statistics are absolutely clear. This is especially good news since effective, comprehensive, and measurable results from Consumer Credit Counseling education programs make creditors cooperative partners and enthusiastic supporters of their endeavors. Consumer Credit Counseling Service of the Black Hills definitely understands its mission and has demonstrated performance to prove it."
Bob Runke, Sr. VP, TransUnion, Chicago, Illinois
"Credit When Credit Is Due is a very comprehensive financial planning tool for the consumer. American Family Insurance recognizes the solid relationship between serious credit problems and insurance claim activities and has partnered with us to present
Credit When Credit Is Due to their customers. In my opinion, the CCCS of Central Illinois client and the American Family customer are better prepared to handle their finances after completing this educational program."
Terry Flynn, CEO, CCCS of Central Illinois
"Thank you for your efforts to make Credit When Credit
Is Due available to consumers. I found this course to be a "one size fits all" basic finance course that has the potential to save our family thousands of dollars over the next few years.
Credit When Credit Is Due< is user friendly and motivational. My husband and I did our homework and applied the knowledge we gained right away. We saw our savings account balance rise and our debt drop dramatically. I recommend it to anyone who will ever finance a car, a home, use a credit card or knows someone who will."
Teresa, CWCID Graduate
"This book will be a great asset to loan officers and borrowers alike. Education is the key to good money management and taking the mystery out of the loan process. Knowledge is empowering and this book will lay out the plan for achieving financial independence rather than dependence."
Barbara K. Garcia, Loan Officer
"My experience has been that people who have financial problems and who do not seek education on how to appropriately use credit in the future, often have the same problems again. It is my hope that this book will give people the opportunity and knowledge to both cure past problems and avoid future ones. This book is excellent."
Dennis C. Whetzal, Attorney, Chapter 7 Bankruptcy Trustee
"Credit When Credit Is Due provides the foundation for future stability, especially for people with little or no credit. It helps them become fully participating, responsible users of the available credit tools."
Edumundo Hidalgo, COO, Chicanos Por La Causa
"Great! Great! Great! Great! Should be mandatory reading for all."
Samuel D. Kerr, Sr., Program Manager, Personal Finance, United States Air Force
"I wish there had been a book like this five years ago. It would have saved me from some mistakes I have made."
Jennifer Isley Educator
"Programs such as Credit When Credit Is Due are a vital link between the Hispanic community and the financial community. Through
Credit When Credit Is Due, Hispanics are learning to use the available credit tools, while becoming more aware of potential credit misuse."
Fidelis Garcis, Former Presiding Judge
"This book deals with a subject every person needs to be knowledgeable about and accountable for. I am so thankful that someone finally took the time to write a book offering help and insight to
'real life' budgeting and overcoming financial obstacles."
Angie Einerwold, Past Debt Management Graduate, Mortgage Loan Officer
"This is a great product. We now finally have a way we can teach our clients truly how to better manage their finances.
Credit When Credit Is Due is a comprehensive, flexible and effective program that not only provides measurable outcomes for our agency, but also gives our clients an additional tool that will result in the successful resolution of their financial concerns."
Jane McNamara, CEO, Credit Counseling Centers, Michigan
"As a board member of the Consumer Credit Counseling Services of Greater San Antonio,
I find that the Credit When Credit Is Due program surpasses anything that is currently on the streets. With financial literacy being a top priority for many financial institutions,
Credit When Credit Is Due covers all of the aspects that will provide banks with educated and financially responsible consumers. It is a comprehensive program that has a flexible delivery system; therefore, more clients can be served. Knowing that a prospective borrower has completed this course can only reflect positively on the borrower."
Sophie Guerra, Assistant Vice President, Community Development
"This is a book written about credit in a real world manner. Anyone with questions about credit should read this book."
